Sourcing vintage parts is a common issue across various areas of interest, whether that be vintage lorry's, cars, or motorbikes. While there may still be original parts available somewhere, getting your hands on them can prove very challenging, or impossible. It is at this point when the enthusiast gets frustrated as the final touches to their otherwise complete restoration stop it from being the finished article. But all hope is not lost...

As an experienced design engineer, 3D Printing operator and motoring enthusiast doing work for companies across the UK through my company, Pro22innovations, it was brought to my attention the benefits that our design and 3D printing knowledge and skills could have for enthusiasts across the world. Since introducing one or two parts it became apparent that customers were happy with the replica items and more items were being requested regularly.

To date we have sold vintage parts to restorations across Europe and continue to increase our market as we aim to provide customers with quality items worldwide.

When a customer requests a part that we don't already have for sale, we try to get hold of an original part to replicate. This doesn't always have to be a perfect part, in many cases broken parts have been sufficient. The part can then be modeled on design software and then fed into 3D Printing software. It is then printed. Often, once printed, the part will be sanded to improve the appearance before being painted. It is always our objective to deliver quality parts as close to the original as possible. We hear horror stories from some customers who have had parts scanned, modeled and printed with terrible quality. In some cases the damaged part was scanned, printed and sent to the customer as a 3D printed replica of the original damaged item! Cases such as this are often done by inexperienced and unskilled individuals who are printed as a hobby. At makemypart.co.uk you can be reassured that the parts we provide will be done to a high standard and we always want to please our customers and ultimately be proud to see our parts on their restoration.
