As many collectors of vintage vehicles discover, sourcing obsolete parts can be a challenge. In many instances this results in a lorry restoration not being completed to its original specification or the project being delayed as parts are tried to be sourced.

With the new age of 3D printing technology, it is now possible to recreate these parts to a standard very similar to the original. 3D printing is a process which manufactures physical parts using a variety of additive methods, depending on the type of printer being used. The most common type of 3D printer would be FDM. The process involves very thin layers of plastic being melted onto a print bed, one on top of the other, generating an end part.

As vintage vehicles age and parts become even more difficult to source, the challenge for those restoring them only gets more difficult.

As with any new technology knowledge and experience is key in utilising it to produce quality end parts. At makemypart.co.uk we always ensure that the quality of our prints is acceptable for collectors. We have sold gear surrounds, bumper steps, grill clips, badges..and many more to collectors throughout the world.
