Vintage part sourcing a nightmare? This will make you happy..

There can be nothing more frustrating than not being able to source a part you require to complete your restoration. Maybe its a small detail that's missing which annoys you each time you show your lorry or perhaps a component that you simply cant do without. Many of the enthusiasts I have talked to have spent months or sometimes years searching for the part they need. Once they realise there is a solution out there that is quick and easy, you can see the joy written on there faces.

I was recently presented with a cab suspension buffer of an LK141. This part had seen better days, as it lay on the bench in two halves. (See pic)

Yes, the part could be ignored or a replacement fabricated somehow using metal and make do parts but often it’s in these details that enthusiasts pride themselves.

This is when the magic happens, as it’s so often described to me. Taking this broken part, reverse engineering it to a computer model and using 3D printing technology a brand new replacement part is manufactured. The material of choice in this instance was Onyx, a fibre reinforced nylon that will produce a strong and hard wearing part, well suited for the role of this particular part.

So the next time your stuck for a part, a badge or something else on your restoration, keep this in mind.
